Mosaics

“Mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is a technique of decorative art or interior decoration. Most mosaics are made of small, flat, roughly square, pieces of stone or glass of different colors.”

That’s the formal definition of mosaic.  However, to the Mosaic Group, it’s a chance to meet, talk, and basically use any material to cover any surface.  It can be a simple tile, a stepping stone, a trivet or something more complex using mixed media, creating unique items for interior or exterior decoration. We’ve used old dishes, mirrors, stones and glass to cover tiles, lamps, vases, bowling balls, etc.  The only limit is your imagination.

We welcome all to join us and learn the basics of cutting, arranging, gluing and grouting. It’s best to call or email the group leader to say you’ll be coming so they can have everything ready for you. Shared tools and supplies are available for your first project and you will soon be free to explore this art form with our warm and friendly support.
